Notes on Fishing

Fishing for pike in this region essentially involves using both lures and deadbait.

Note: The Use Of Livebait Is Strictly Forbidden In Ireland.

Alan loves lure fishing, and tends to employ most widely used tactics in pursuit of Old Esox. Large and Small Minnow Baits, Buck Tails, Spinner Baits, The Ol’ Reliable Spoons - Daredevels, Johnsons, kidney shaped, Kuusamo Professors, Evans type etc. are all reliable fish takers, not forgetting of course, Jerkbaits, both large and small and even top water - very exciting if conditions allow!

The enormous array of rubber creatures, worms, shads etc, currently available to the lure angler, all catch their fair share of pike.

Deadbaiting during the warmer months is best employed by Float-Trolling at less than 2 m.p.h. or when conditions allow, using a Drogue or Drift-Sock and drifting across a chosen weed line or contour with two Float-Trolled deads in tow.

In the colder months, static deadbaiting either popped up or nailed to the floor gets the biggest fish.
